Glamping in the Rain – How to Make Sure You Have an Amazing Time Whatever The Weather

Worried about what wet weather would mean for your glamping event? Experience has taught us that as long as you’re prepared, the rain needn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. We’ve put together some information and top tips to help make sure you have an amazing time, come rain or shine.

Okay, we admit it, here at Plush Tents we were a little nervous the first time we had a wet weather event. We wanted to make sure that everything went smoothly and people stayed warm and dry. We prepared for the elements by making the hot tub super warm, the fire pit even bigger and the wood-burners blazing in the yurts. We needn’t have worried. The roars of laughter and cheering reassured us that our guests were having loads of fun.  After the event, we had amazing feedback, with guests telling us they’d had the best time EVER! Phew!

We’re now seasoned hands at preparing the site for wet weather and making sure that our guests have an amazing experience come rain or shine. We can reassure you that you’ll stay warm and dry throughout your stay and the site is well equipped for anything the British weather might decide to throw at us!

Plenty of Indoor Social Space

It’s essential to have enough indoor space, so that your party can move under cover if the weather does turn wet. At Plush Tents we have a variety of indoor spaces for you to enjoy.

Home Yurt

In the event of rain, you’ll need somewhere warm and dry for all of your guests to congregate. At Plush Tents our beautiful, communal yurt (affectionately called Home Yurt) has a capacity of 120. With it’s cinema projector, sound system, roaring fire and covered outside area, Home Yurt is the perfect place to host your social gathering.

Tree House Kitchen

Our treehouse kitchen features two gas burning stoves and ovens, a catering sink and an ice box refrigerator, perfect for cooking up big shared meals under cover.

Kids Tent

If rain stops play, then why not hire our kids tent complete with bean bags and optional DVD’s provides a warm, dry space for children to hang out.

Cosy Showers and Toilet Block

Our heated, cosy, shower and toilet block has four reliably hot, gas powered showers.

Warm and Dry Yurts

As well as the indoor communal areas, the individual yurts are well equipped for all weather eventualities. With their comfortable beds and toasty wood burners, you can snuggle up warm and stay warm and dry whatever the weather.

Rainy Day Activities

Rainy weather provides a great chance to slow down, enjoy some quality bonding time together and even an opportunity to get creative!

Here are some of our favourite activities for a rainy day:

Dancing: There’s nothing quite like a good old dance to get the endorphins going. Download a playlist and get your friends and family to do one too, you could have a good old boogie to your favourite tunes, a fun ‘dance off’ with a compare even some fun dance music aerobics. We’ve even had some awesome bollywood themed dancing in Home Yurt.

Watching Films in the Communal Yurt: Home Yurt has a cinema projector, so bring your favourite DVD’s and get comfortable on the Chesterfield sofas to enjoy a favourite family film together. It could also be a good opportunity to show any wedding or holiday photographs or videos, while you have a captive audience!

Music in the Communal Yurt: The sound system in Home Yurt means you can enjoy a dance inside, or why not arrange an acoustic jamming session. Encourage any musicians in your party to set up in Home Yurt, bring some extra percussion instruments and let the music making commence! You could also set up a spontaneous cabaret, encouraging everyone, young and old to perform an act. It could be a song, dance, poem, magic trick and can be as silly or as wacky as you like – you might be surprised by some hidden talents!

Board Games: Board games provide some screen-free, good-old-fashioned fun for young and old alike. Bring a selection of your favourite board games, or ask guests to bring along their favourite.

Arts and Crafts: Some colouring pens, crayons and paper will go a long way with keeping the little ones entertained. Why not bring some large pieces of paper or some fabric and fabric pens to make a big communal art piece or banner for your event. It makes a nice keepsake too.

Wood fired Hot Tub: Well if you’re going to get rained on why not do it in style and comfort.

What to Pack to Be Prepared for Rain

The right clothing makes all the difference and as the old saying goes, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing”.

Here are our top tips for what to bring:

  • The most important thing is a big smile, its not hard to wear one when your surrounded by your friends and family.
  • Plenty of warm layers
  • Plenty of spare clothes for the kids (who tend to be at home in the outdoors come rain or shine and will probably need several clothing changes)
  • Waterproof jackets (or ponchos, for that festival vibe!)
  • Wellies
  • Waterproof all-in-ones are perfect for the younger puddle jumpers (it would be great if they came in adult size too!)
  • Umbrellas for walking to and from the communal areas and especially handy if you’re supervising youngsters outdoors.
  • Blankets / shawls to cosy up with and watch a film
  • Board Games / pack of cards
  • DVD’s – family favourites. Photo albums, videos
  • Musical instruments
  • Arts and craft materials, esp for the kids.
  • Fancy Dress, Costumes they are fun no matter what the weather.

We do have a great selection of games, DVD’s and arts and crafts but you can never have too many.

Embrace the Elements – Glamping Style

As long as you’re prepared, rain can even be enjoyable. In hot weather, rain brings welcome relief from the heat and a feeling of freshness to the woods. Night-time rain is especially welcomed and it’s wonderfully relaxing to lie in a cosy, comfortable yurt, fire blazing whilst listening to the sound of the rain on the canvas. It’s a beautiful, calming, sensory experience.

Young children tend to love the rain and are happy to continue outdoor play whatever the weather, making muddy memories. Just make sure you pack plenty of spare clothes for them and you can then fully enjoy the great outdoors, knowing that you and your little ones can get quickly clean, warm and dry afterwards.
